During this difficult period and right before the harvest the Matelica producers were able to finalize some discussions that were on the table since some time.
The matter under evaluation was related to make more evident the ‘Cru’ status of the Matelica area. To put the real focus on the territory.
The conclusion was that it is allowed to have on the label the denominations:
Matelica DOC and Matelica DOCG.
No more Verdicchio grape in the denomination. Just the name of the territory
(Even if the wineries can decide to keep Verdicchio on the label).
The decision has been taken by the consortium and all burocratical process are ready to be started.
