Wines of the Marche: Delicious Age-worthy Whites, Solid Reds
by Ian D’Agata – July 7th, 2021
2016 Marche Rosso Villa Castiglioni – 90
Bright dark red-ruby. Light red berry and dark plum aromas with scents of gingerbread on the nose are complicated by slightly warmer notes of coffee and tobacco. Enters rather stern, then opens with aeration to show flavours similar to the aromas, dusty tannins and good length. Moderately concentrated but with nicely integrated acidity, this is a lovely wine that is drinking well but that will stand a few more years aging without problems. And that may in fact help it show better. Drinking window: now-2026.
